Behind The Mask
Pageant Queen
Her largest influencer and protector lives vicariously through her beauty, hoping to obtain the success that eluded herself. Lucky and blessed by beauty at birth, she has no concept of the advantages that have been bestowed upon her. The person assigned to protect her is merely transferring her own mask. Frivolous thoughts manage her budding brain. She is consumed with not being beautiful enough, talented enough to capture a cheap metal crown who’s very bling has blinded her to critical opportunities that in time will erase - just like beauty itself.
She has never walked the beach for fear that sand, water, and sun might negatively affect the process of aging. She has never played competitive sport for fear that these games might lead to physical harm. On the other hand, she is well traveled, but has strangely been blinded to the world. Living out of hotels, suitcases, her destination will never truly be obtained – franticly chasing the constant confirmation of beauty and the title of queen.
She will only see the waves through the window of a traveling minivan in route to her next pageant. Her sport is the conquest of beauty itself, which like everything else in life comes and goes. Instead, she will spend thousands of hours in prison – in mirrors - looking to improve upon the thing she already has – beauty itself. Perhaps there are two masks in place here?
